The Ku-band capacity will allow SES ASTRA to enhance and secure its existing offering to major Direct-to-Home (DTH) markets in the UK and Ireland. With a Ku-band payload specifically designed to meet the requirements of some of Europe’s largest DTH broadcasters, the satellites will have spot beam and pan-European beam switching capabilities to accommodate both pay-TV and free-to-air broadcasters, and to provide these customers with increased functionality.
SES ASTRA customers in this region include BSkyB, BBC, ITV, Freesat, Channel Four, Channel 5, UK TV, Virgin Media, MTV and Discovery.
The Ka-band payload will allow SES ASTRA to develop next generation broadband services in Europe, including its growing ASTRA2Connect product.
Will we be loosing UK TV in Spain?
"Astra 2F & 2E News - SES ASTRA SES ASTRA TEST TRANSMISSIONS ASTRA 2F NEWS - Have been running test transmissions on several frequencies, the first two being tested are the BBC HD frequencies on 11.023 H, SR 23.000, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2 8PSK
There have been mixed reports coming in from all over Europe, although UK SKY TV viewers and UK Freesat TV viewers on the Costa Blanca have been reporting that they are able to pick up the test transmissions on dishes as small as 80cm.
Whilst all of the reports have been looking positive on the Costa Blanca we are still unable to confirm 100% that all channels will be available on a 1M dish, we are still recommending the 1.4M Famaval satellite dish for UK TV in the Torrevieja area, and will now probably be recommending minimum of 1.9 dishes in the Costa del Sol. It looks like there is going to be a reverse whereas the Costa del Sol will require big 1.9 dishes and the Costa Blanca will be using 1M 1.4 and 1.9 where required. That said this is all speculation and guess work and only going by the test transmissions, if having the "SKY ANYTIME" and "SKY SERIES LINK" is of great importance we are having issue getting these frequencies with the 1.4 dish on the Costa Blanca at present, so anyone looking for the FULL SKY TV IN SPAIN experience may want to still look at the 1.9 Famaval satellite dish.
